Eyes Without a Face

Les yeux sans visage

10.30pm / Sat 12 November / Studio Cinema

Dir: Georges Franju / France / 1959 / 1h 29mins

Cast: Pierce Brasseur, Alida Valli, Edith Scob

One of the most influential horror films ever made, regularly cited as a major influence on directors as wide ranging as Pedro Almodovar, John Carpenter and John Woo. The film tells a tale of obsession and guilt, more poetic than grisly and with layers of meaning still being uncovered today. When a brilliant surgeon causes an accident that leaves his beautiful daughter’s face disfigured, he goes to horrific extremes to give her a new face. Seen by some as the first slasher film, Georges Franju’s remarkable case of psychological terror remains a must-see film for all fans of cinema.
