Down Where the Buffalo Go

2pm / Sun 20 November / Studio Cinema

Dir: Ian Knox / UK / 1988 / 1h 30mins

Cast: Cast Harvey Keitel, Andrew Byatt, Stella Gonet

In 1988 celebrated Scottish playwright Peter McDougall’s film was made in Dunoon and Greenock for BBC’s Play On One series, with American actor Harvey Keitel in the lead role. Carl (Keitel) is a nightstick wielding US Marine who is caught between his duty at the Holy Loch naval base and his marriage to a local girl who wants to leave Scotland. McDougall presents a thought-provoking look at Scotland in the late eighties, with the Holy Loch as one of the areas most affected by ‘the special relationship’ between UK and US militaries. A criminally under-seen film, we are delighted to bring this film back to Dunoon for this special screening.
